What prompts someone to show such a callous disregard for human life?

Abortion practitioners and abortion clinic staffers kill hundreds, even thousands of babies in abortions. Every day, everyweek knowingly snuffing out of the life of a little baby. And there there are those who, perhaps without premeditation, take the life of or severely injure a little baby.

Sometimes the answers are evident — drug addictions, mental health problems, or a split second decision someone will regret for the rest of their lives. In this heartbreaking case out of Michigan there are few answers for why this little boy almost became a victim of infanticide:

In this case, a young man who works as an EMT, a job that normally requires him to care for human life, beat and punched his own son so savagely that his boy skull cracked. And he drugged his deaf girlfriend, who wouldn’t have heard his little boy’s screams anyway, making it more difficult for her to help him.

The London Daily Mail has more:

jesse2A 23-year-old Michigan man is facing child abuse charges after police say he savagely beat his 6-month-old son, leaving the infant clinging to life.

Nicholas Spiridione, an EMT from Detroit, is accused of sending baby Jesse to the hospital with severe head trauma last Saturday.

The baby boy, who is suffering from brain swelling and hemorrhage, has undergone emergency surgery and is listed in critical condition at Children’s Hospital of Michigan in Detroit.

Spiridione could face a life in prison if convicted of first-degree child abuse charges.

jesse3Just before 5pm Saturday, police officers were dispatched to a home in the 6600 block of Pine Street in Taylor.

The 911 call was made by Spiridione’s fiancee, Cory Stahl, who told the dispatcher that her son was unresponsive and struggling to draw breath.

Stahl, a veterinary student who works as a dog groomer, said she is hearing impaired and did not hear her child’s screams from the other room. She also said her fiance drugged her with a cocktail of medications before allegedly attacking their son.

‘I wasn’t there to protect him,’ the 24-year-old woman tearfully told MyFox Detroit. ‘He’s my baby. That’s what I’m supposed to do.’
