Officials say an abandoned baby has been found on the side of a highway in Washington state. The newborn baby’s was found wrapped in a towel on the side of road and the infant’s umbilical cord was still attached.

washingtonOfficials say they are unsure whether the child was alive or stillborn when tossed into the weeds and the mother has not yet been found. The child was already dead when found in brush alongside the busy road.

They have not disclosed if the bay was a boy or girl but said the infant was full term.

The London Daily Mail newspaper has more on this tragedy:

Investigators are working to track down the newborn’s mother because they fear for her health, an official told KIRO.

‘We’re looking for somebody to help us identify who this baby belonged to,’ an official told KOMO. ‘Somebody has got to know somebody who was pregnant recently that is suddenly not pregnant anymore, and there no baby is sight.’

A picture was released of the towel the body was wrapped in when discovered, police are hoping that leads to the discovery of the baby’s mother.

Authorities said they also aren’t sure if the baby was alive or stillborn, and that it will take an autopsy to determine the cause of death.

Locals were shocked when told of the horrifying discovery.
