Girl Scouts Promotes Pro-Abortion Kathleen Sebelius As Woman Of “Courage and Character “

Fresh on the heels of Girl Scouts USA (GSUSA) sharing a recommendation for Wendy Davis as a 2013 Woman of the Year via their official Twitter account, the organization suggests HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius as a woman “with courage, confidence, and character.”

On December 30, 2013, GSUSA posted an article on their Facebook page detailing 7 inspiring women of 2013, a list that includes Ms. Sebelius for her “ferocious defense of President Obama’s signature legislative achievement.”

This is not the first time the Girl Scout organization has held up Sebelius as a role model for girls. In 2012, Girl Scouts launched its “To Get Her There” campaign with a girl-attended event featuring Sebelius alongside several members of Congress.

Girl Scouts’ recent inclusion of Wendy Davis and Kathleen Sebelius in its conversations regarding role models for 2013 are just the most recent examples of the organization’s continued promotion of women and organizations that aggressively support sexual and reproductive rights to the girls whose characters they are seeking to form.  From curriculum materials, to resources shared on social media, to event invitations, Girl Scouts USA and local councils across the country present an ideology that embraces sexual and reproductive rights to their members with disturbing consistency.

In response to questions and concerns expressed about these and other approved content, GSUSA continues to rely on its oft quoted statement that the organization does not take a position on human sexuality, birth control, and abortion.  A statement that could reasonably be viewed as appropriate for a secular organization serving young girls, if the materials created and shared by the organization strictly adhered to the statement itself.

Instead, Girl Scouts continues to violate their own policy, a sad irony given the promise to be “honest and fair” that each Girl Scout member is expected to uphold.   Ironic as well is the lack of faith Girl Scouts appears to have in their members’ capabilities to put forth their own thoughtful and intelligent suggestions for women role models, without introducing such conversations with controversial and politically charged suggestions.

A steady decline in membership and cookie sales continues as Girl Scouts continues its moral decline.  With Girl Scouts recently shared suggestions of Wendy Davis and Kathleen Sebelius as incredible and inspiring women, Girl Scouts clearly remains committed to promoting “reproductive rights” to girls.  How this affects commitment to the organization and its cookies will be interesting to observe.
