Planned Parenthood Action Fund has created a series of videos featuring tearful mothers who underwent late-term abortions to prevent the birth of their children who had medical problems. These are mothers who say they wanted a baby, but decided on abortion once the problems were diagnosed. The videos were produced in an attempt to derail late-term abortion bans—those after 20 weeks gestation.
In the first instance, the mom was told that the baby’s brain was malformed and, in her devastation, she decided to end her child’s life. The political ad then finds the mom saying that this has nothing to do with politics. “This has to do with decisions my husband and I needed to make.”
ALL staff member Dwain Currier was appalled upon discovering the videos. He did some preliminary research that revealed that children with the conditions described in the last two videos have very high survival rates, and pointed out that there was nothing in the presentations saying that the outlook was grim for any of these babies—just that the parents decided to abort them after the defects were uncovered.
One of the ads features a mom whose preborn child was diagnosed with a condition in which the child’s intestines were in a sac outside the abdomen—a condition known as an omphalocele. While some babies have other medical problems in addition to this, complete recovery from the omphalocele is expected after surgery.
Another of the children had what appears from the mom’s description to be a diaphragmatic hernia. The diaphragm had an abnormal opening, allowing the baby girl’s stomach and intestines entry into her chest cavity, displacing other organs. Though children with this defect almost always develop severe breathing difficulties, the heart and lungs can be temporarily bypassed to give the lungs time to expand and mature and, with proper repair and treatment, around 80 percent of children with this condition survive. Yet the mother says that her choices were to end the child’s life or give birth to a child that she would watch suffocate to death.
Planned Parenthood marches these moms out to evoke sympathy for the cause of defending late-term abortion.

“It is sad these mothers don’t have their children,” Currier said. “It’s satanic that Planned Parenthood uses them to promote killing babies because of a deformity.”

The abortion giant obviously knows no shame, and will resort to anything in order to ensure unfettered abortion right up to the time of delivery. That’s why Planned Parenthood pumped at least $300,000 into fighting a 20-week abortion ban that was before voters in Albuquerque, New Mexico, this week. Planned Parenthood’s sidekick, the ACLU, spent another $200,000 opposing the ban.
