Tuesday, October 15, 2013 was the ninth annual Pro-Life Day of Silent Solidarity. Every year thousands of people around the world are willing to give up their voices for those who will never have one because of abortion.

This week was no different.

Participants in this powerful, yearly event are identified by wearing red tape and arm bands with the word “LIFE” written across them while they hand out fliers explaining why they aresilent. This is an amazing opportunity for many, especially students, to educate those around them about the thousands of babies that are killed by abortion every single day.

If you were on Instagram or Twitter and searched the hash tags #silentday or #prolifeday you would have seen hundreds of pictures of individuals, groups, students, families, and many others who were participating in many different locations.

Stand True Pro-Life Outreach, youth outreach for Priests for Life, and the official sponsor of the Pro-Life Day of Silent Solidarity, monitored social media all day and received many messages from those who had given up their voices for the voiceless.

One student wrote telling how in her school she was being bullied persistently because of her silence for life. No matter what though, she vowed, she would keep silence because “my voice is being borrowed today…my voice is given to all the babies who never had a chance to speak.”

In Florida, Spirit FM, a local Christian radio station, joined in the Pro-Life Day of Silent Solidarity by having their DJs keep silence on air. On their website they posted: “Your Spirit FM air staff will be participating in the Pro-Life Day of Silent Solidarity, so it’s going to sound a little different around here. You’ll still hear the great music, but there will be no chat. You WILL hear testimonies from those whose lives have been affected by abortion.”

Finally, a message was received on the Pro-Life Day Facebook page stating that one woman was thinking about aborting her child, but was waiting for a sign about it when she saw someone wearing the “Life” tape in a grocery store.  She approached the woman wearing the tape, who felt called to break her silence. They were able to pray together right then and there, and the woman thinking about abortion decided against it.

During the Pro-Life Day of Silent Solidarity this year there was a new focus as well to highlight the lies and deceit of Planned Parenthood, the largest abortion provider in the United States. Stand True Pro-Life Outreach teamed up with Students for Life of America to get “Planned Parenthood Project” postcards into the hands of those taking part in Pro-Life Day. It was a powerful tool to educate people with the truth about the organization that performs more than 900 abortions a day. While I am sure there are many more stories to be told about what was accomplished through the 2013 Pro-Life Day of Silent Solidarity, the above highlights the true spirit of the day.

No matter who you are or where you go, your witness for LIFE matters. Educating people with the truth about abortion is vital to the pro-life cause, and the Pro-Life Day of Silent Solidarity is a powerful way to do it.

You never know who will see you, or the lives you will touch and save. And what is the most important thing at the end of the day? It is that you are willing to courageously witness in silent solidarity for something, and in this case, for someone. You are silent for every child in the womb who deserves the chance to have their voices heard.
