A top pro-abortion lawmaker attached language to a U.S. Senate bill that would force Americans to pay for abortions for volunteers in the Peace Corps at taxpayer expense.

The liberal Huffington Post has more details:

The Peace Corps Equity Act of 2013, sponsored by Sen. Jeanne Shaheen (D-N.H.), was included in the Senate Foreign Operations Appropriations bill, which advanced out of committee on Thursday. The bill would allow the Peace Corps to provide its volunteers with health insurance coverage for abortion in cases of rape or incest, or when the life of the woman is in danger.

Peace Corps volunteers have been restricted since the coverage was banned in a 1979 appropriations bill…

The Senate Appropriations Committee also included Shaheen’s amendment to permanently repeal the Mexico City Policy…

President Barack Obama repealed the policy upon taking office in 2009, but Shaheen’s amendment would permanently repeal it, so that it cannot be reinstated every time a conservative president takes office.

The Planned Parenthood abortion business, which does more abortions than any other organization in the United States, applauded the move on Twitter.

Thank you @SenatorShaheen for introducing provision to expand abortion coverage for #PeaceCorps Volunteers!

Sargent Shriver, who has the distinction of being the only pro-life Democrat on a national presidential ticket in modern times, was the founder of the Peace Corps.

Funding of abortions for members of the Peace Corps was one of the marching orders pro-abortion groups gave President Barack Obama upon his election.
