MSNBC host Melissa Harris Perry wore tampon earrings during a weekend broadcast, telling viewers they were made especially for her to wear to demonstrate her opposition to the ban on late-term abortions in Texas that Governor Rick Perry signed this week.
“My producer Lorena made for me, last week, some tampon earrings,” she said.
“Because, of course, you’ll remember the Texas state legislature said you could not bring tampons in when they were going, these women, to in fact stand up for their own reproductive rights. You weren’t allowed to, initially, to bring tampons,” Harris Perry continues.
The liberal anchor said she wore them in part because she is upset Texas police officials had to confiscate tampons at the Texas legislature that abortion activists planned to throw at legislators following the vote for the ban on abortions after 20 weeks of pregnancy.
“So just in case that ever happens again, ladies, you can just bring them on your earrings,” Harris-Perry said.
Her antics drew condemnation on Twitter:

It wouldn’t be nearly as funny if the tampon earring wearer, @mharrisperry, didn’t think she was smarter than everyone else.

For a group of people who want people out of their vaginas, they sure spend a lot of time drawing attention to them. Tampon earrings? SMH
