The Congressional Budget Office, the allegedly non-partisan agency of Congress that assesses the financial impact of legislation, had added its two cents to the abortion debate. On June 18, 2013, the House successfully passed HR 1797, the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act.
With no real numbers or rationale, the CBO urges these late term abortions to “save” money. It estimates that up to $225 million will be added to Medicaid over a nine-year period (2014-2023) if these human lives are allowed to live. Never mind they don’t take into account that human beings also largely contribute to the government’s bottom line. Apparently, humans in a post-modern, pro-abortion society are simply a drag on the federal government. In light of the horrors of Gosnell, Karpen, Soli and late-term abortionists nationwide, one would think some sense of morality would into their calculus.
Medicaid.gov boasts of how it (ahem, taxpayers) funds 40% of all U.S. births on an annual basis. This isn’t “Keeping America Healthy” which is Medicaid’s tagline. (I don’t even have time to go into the plethora of studies that show the inferior medical treatment that many Medicaid recipients receive.) Medicaid’s exponential expense explosion is the result of births to unmarried women, which is nothing to brag about. This is nearly the same percentage (41%) of children born into homes without fathers; it was 3.8% in 1940. It is also the same percentage of women under the poverty line who seek abortions each year, according to Planned Parenthood-funded Guttmacher Institute.
Our country, in liberal efforts to dissolve the institution of marriage and traditional family, has disempowered women and dismembered our unborn children. These social policies (bolstered by inane “assessments” from governmental agencies like the CBO) have enabled the epidemic of unmarried births to rise to alarming levels, with abortion recklessly thrown out as the solution to solvable issues. Every human life is precious and, tragically, we have devalued Life by eliminating those foundational elements that allow children to be nurtured in the most ideal environment—with a mom and a dad. Government will always be a poor substitute for family, whether Medicaid or a host of other “Great Society” programs.
The CBO laments the projected increase in Medicaid expenses, up to $225 million, over the next 9 years if late-term abortions are banned. Yet, they can’t see the most obvious numbers that account for such out of control Medicaid costs?
Government has absolutely failed in its pregnancy prevention efforts, most notably through Title X funding. According to the CDC P.R.A.M.S. initiative, the national unintended pregnancy rate has held at 49% since 1995. It hasn’t budged. In fact, the CDC’s Healthy People 2010 initiative (now replaced by the lowered expectations of the 2020 initiative) claimed a goal of reducing the unintended pregnancy rate from 49% to 30%. It’s still 49%. Yet the CBO can’t seem to decry the exorbitant cost and failure of Title-X funding, especially those tax dollars funneled to the nation’s largest abortion chain, Planned Parenthood. This only reinforces that Title-X funding, as envisioned by Richard Nixon and his signing of the Family Planning Services and Population Research Act of 1970, had one thing in mind: population control. Sure, Planned Parenthood may wrap itself up in a nice liberal feminist, gay activist, welfare lobbying, overpopulation mythologist pink bow but, in the end, they still cause our nation to bleed red.
If the CBO wants to recommend saving money (without killing off our Posterity), I highly suggest we defund Planned Parenthood and reallocate those hard-earned taxpayer dollars to life-affirming efforts.
There is no denying the horrible return on investment taxpayers are saddled with annually by subsidizing the abortion business. Each year, nearly half a billion dollars ($542.4 million) fund a failed corporate welfare behemoth that doesn’t reduce the unintended pregnancy rate but, instead, encourages the irresponsible sexual activity, among the unmarried that leads to pregnancy. The CBO’s worried about a conjured calculation of $25 million per year of newborn-caused Medicaid cost increases. It should sound the alarm about a government that wastes 9 times that amount each year on an organization that fails to prevent pregnancies because it relies upon a steady stream of unborn children to abort to bring in its $1.2 billion revenue.
The CBO is as accurate in its frequent flawed financial forecasts as population control/global warming zealots (who are predominantly pro-abortion) are at predicting hurricanes and tornadoes. It’s all just a bunch of hot air.
