A teenage girl in this northeastern India city has died from an abortion her husband forced her to have.

Abortions are almost always dangers for women — leading to death, injury, medical problems and mental health issues afterwards. In this case, a 17-year-old by the name of Anjani died from the abortion she was reportedly coerced into having.

From local media reports in India:

A 17-year-old girl identified as Anjani, daughter of Lt Vikram, from Maharajganj, Guleria, died allegedly after being forced to undergo abortion.

Anjani had eloped with one Babulal with whom she reportedly had an affair around six months ago. She soon became pregnant after which Babulal allegedly started forcing her to undergo an abortion. On June 19, after heated arguments with Babulal, Anajanai went for an abortion but her condition deteriorated soon afterwards. Babulal subsequently dropped her to her house and escaped. Anajani’s family however refused to take her back and sent her back to Babulal’s house. On June 20, Babulal rushed her to medical college where she died early morning. Babulal has reportedly escaped leaving the body abandoned at the hospital. Police have sent the body for postmortem.

Earlier this year in the United States, a young woman also died from a legal abortion.

Jennifer McKenna Morbelli, a 29-year-old woman from New Rochelle, New York died from a botched 33-week abortion on February 7. The medical examiner’s office confirmed a botched 33-week abortion killed the young woman.

Meanwhile, also this year, inspectors discovered a second abortion-related patient death had occurred at one of the abortion clinics run by Steven Chase Brigham in Baltimore that is located in a residential condominium complex. The woman was said to have had a previous health condition that contributed to her suffering cardiac arrest at the time of the abortion.
