Abortion Doc Who Twists Off Babies’ Heads Killed Woman in Failed Abortion

The similarities between convicted abortion practitioner Kermit Gosnell and Houston-based abortion practitioner Douglas Karpen are striking.

Not only does Karpen kill babies born alive following abortions in a similar procedure that more closely resembles infanticide than abortion, but Karpen also killed a patient in a botched abortion. Gosnell was convicted of murder for severing the necks of just-born babies but he also found guilty of involuntary manslaughter in the death of patient Karnamaya Mongar, who died after a botched abortion.

LifeNews exposed Douglas Karpen — who, like the Philadelphia-based abortion practitioner, is also killing babies born alive after botched abortions. Unlike Gosnell, who killed babies by jamming medical scissors into their necks, at his Houston abortion clinic former employees of Karpen testify he goes one shocking step further, he kills the babies with his bare hands by twisting their necks execution style.

A new video expose’ of Douglas Karpen (see bottom of this article) has three former abortion clinic employees of abortion practitioner Douglas Karpen exposing horrific practices that took place at his abortion clinic.

Now,the blog Secular Pro-Life has uncovered information showing Karpen killed one of his patients in a botched abortion.

I’ve since found that at least one of Karpen’s patients died. Denise Montoya was given an abortion in 1988 when she was 15 years old and 25 weeks pregnant.

Karpen performed the procedure which led to Montoya’s death. Her parents sued, alleging that the clinic “failed to adequately explain the risks of the procedure, and had not provided consent forms, or had the parents sign any informed consent document, prior to the fatal abortion.”

Karpen injured a second woman in a botched abortion and faced a lawsuit from that failure.

Another lawsuit stemmed from Nicolette C.’s partial abortion. Nicolette called from Louisiana to ask for advice, and the clinic quoted her a price of about $900 and said it would go up every week. They quoted her over $1,000 after she waited 10 days, but when she arrived at the clinic they said the price was $1,800.

Nicolette, alone, 16, without parental notice or consent, tried to pawn her jewelry to meet the higher price. She finally had to return home and borrow money before the clinic would begin the abortion by inserting a laminaria to start dilation. Nicolette changed her mind, however, and returned to the clinic to beg them to remove the laminaria and stop the abortion. (This is a procedure that can be done.)

According to the suit the clinic and Karpen lied to Nicolette and refused to remove the laminaria. Finally Nicolette and her mom sought emergency help at a hospital where Nicolette gave birth to a premature little girl. The baby girl survived 6 months before dying. As I suspected, the pattern of wanton cruelty and indifference lives on with late-term abortion providers.

The pro-life blog says the Karpen and Gosnell cases blow the cover off of the myth that abortion backers truly care for women and women’s health.

“One of the most important consequences of revelations about Gosnell, Karpen, and other late-term abortionists is the collapse of the myth that pro-life activists are concerned only with stopping abortion and not with helping women,” it says. “Was it really concern for women that led pro-choice groups to cover for Kermit Gosnell? To screen him from any oversight or regulation? To allow him to refer patients from the mainstream National Abortion Federation to his own clinic?”

“Is it concern for women that leads national organizations like Planned Parenthood to continue to fight tooth and nail against common-sense regulation of abortion clinics that would, for example, hold them up to the same standards as other medical outpatient surgery facilities or require that abortionists have admitting privileges at local hospitals in case something wrong?” it asked. “Is it concern for women that leads Planned Parenthood to not only fail to report evidence of statutory rape, but also to help cover it up? Because let me tell you: if that’s what concern for women looks like, women need some new allies.”

Authorities in Houston, Texas are responding to calls for an investigation and the the Lt. Governor of Texas demanded an investigation of Karpen.

The three informants in the expose’ video, Deborah Edge, Gigi Aguliar, and Krystal Rodriguez, have come forward to tell of their horrific experiences working for him at one of three of his Texas abortion clinics, the Aaron Women’s Clinic in Houston. A fourth informant has co-operated with Operation Rescue, filing an affidavit about her experiences, but remains at this time anonymous.

These women brought forward evidence of illegal late-term abortions in the form of photos taken on their cell phones at the Karpen’s clinic on Schumacher Lane in Houston.

The photos were scandalous. They depicted two babies aborted well beyond the legal limit of 24 weeks in Texas. Their necks had been cut.

“The photos show babies that are huge, with gashes in their necks, indicating that these babies were likely born alive, then killed, just as Kermit Gosnell did at his ‘House of Horrors’ clinic in Philadelphia,” said Troy Newman, President of Operation Rescue. “In fact, there are numerous similarities between Karpen and the Gosnell case, including the disregarding of complaints by the authorities that allowed both men to continue their illegal operations.”

The video interview of the three informants verified the worst.

“When he did an abortion, especially an over 20 week abortion, most of the time the fetus would come completely out before he cut the spinal cord or he introduced one of the instruments into the soft spot of the fetus, in order to kill the fetus,” said Deborah Edge, who worked as a surgical assistant for Karpen for about 15 years until leaving in March, 2011.

“I thought, well, it’s an abortion you know, that’s what he does, but I wasn’t aware that it was illegal…Most of the time we would see him where the fetus would come completely out and of course, the fetus would still be alive,” Edge continued.

How often did this happen?

“I think every morning I saw several, on several occasions,” she said. “If we had 20-something patients, of course ten, or twelve, or fifteen patients would be large procedures, and out of those large procedures, I’m pretty sure that I was seeing at least three or four fetuses that were completely delivered in some way or another,” said Edge, acknowledging that these babies would be alive.

She described how some babies would emerge too soon and would be alive, moving, and breathing. She also told of how Karpen would sometimes deliver the babies feet first with the toes wiggling until he stabbed them with a surgical implement. At the moment the toes would suddenly splay out before going limp. Sometimes he would kill the babies by “twisting the head off the neck,” according to Edge.

During the interview the former abortion clinic employee says: “the fetus would come completely out and of course, the fetus would still be alive” and the abortion clinic employee added “I’m talking about the whole floor dirty. I’m talking about me drenched in blood.”

One abortion clinic employee is quoted as saying, “I thought, well, it’s an abortion you know, that’s what he does, but I wasn’t aware that it was illegal. Most of the time we would see him where the fetus would come completely out and of course, the fetus would still be alive.”

“He does a lot of huge abortions. A lot of the times, we would bring the big fetus that were over age, we would re-open the bag and just look at it and be like, ‘Oh my gosh, it’s so big,” the abortion clinic staffer adds. “Sometimes he couldn’t get the fetus out. He would yank pieces – piece by piece – when they were oversize. And I’m talking about the whole floor dirty. I’m talking about me drenched in blood.”
