The Vermont state House will vote tomorrow on a measure that would make the third, following Washington and Oregon, to legalize assisted suicide.

Vermont Right to Life provided LifeNews the following update with information about what has led to tomorrow’s vote:

The House Judiciary Committee, after declining to hear from expert witnesses who asked to testify, rubber-stamped the House Human Services language to restore Oregon-Style doctor-prescribed suicide to, and then voted 8-3 to move, S.77 out for a full vote of the House of Representatives.

The bill is appears to be being rushed to the floor so it can be voted on, but at the same time, the new language restoring Oregon-style doctor-prescribed suicide to S. 77 will not be available online to review until sometime Monday the 29th. The best information we have from House leadership and the Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, proponents of the Oregon-style bill, is that the new language will be scheduled to be voted on by the full House of Representatives on Tuesday, April 30th.

Call your State Representatives over the weekend and urge them to oppose Oregon-style doctor-prescribed suicide. Please encourage your legislator(s) to listen carefully to the debate before casting their vote on such an important matter. If you have already called, please call again or help find others in your district to call!
