Many Americans are now familiar with the sordid exploits of abortion practitioner Kermit Gosnell, but they likely know nothing about the District Attorney whose office is leading the fight to prosecute him.
District Attorney Seth Williams won election to his post in 2009 and became, surprisingly in the metropolitan city of Philadelphia, the first African American District Attorney in its history.
Williams is the former altar boy at St. Carthage in West Philly who still attends Mass with his family at the same church, now called St. Cyprian. He was an orphan given up by his unwed mother.
The contrast between Williams and Gosnell could not be more stark when it comes to matters of life and death. While Gosnell is famous for brutally killing babies in late-term abortions and infanticides, Williams was adopted when his mother felt she could not provide proper care for him.
“Seth Williams is a true Philadelphia success story. Given up by an unwed mother and placed in foster care, Seth was blessed to be adopted by a devoted and loving family,” his official biography says. “He grew up in a hard-working West Philadelphia neighborhood, the only child of Imelda Williams and the late Rufus O. Williams who emphasized the importance of community service his whole life.”
Williams serves his community as an educator and volunteer and is also proud to serve his country as a Major in the Judge Advocate General Corps of the United States Army Reserve.

The city’s top prosecutor is also a Catholic and a family man.
“Seth is also proud to serve on the boards of several community organizations, including the Catholic Social Services of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, the Overbrook Park Civic Association & Town Watch, St. Cyprian Catholic Church, the St. Martin de Porres Foundation and the West Philadelphia Y.M.C.A,” his bio states.
“Out of all of Seth’s numerous accomplishments he is most proud of his three daughters Alyssia, Taylor and Hope,” it concludes.
