One of those tragic, tragic stories… The Dakota County attorney’s office has charged a Minnesota man with two counts of second-degree intentional murder –one count in the death of Margorie Ann Holland, Roger Holland’s pregnant 37-year-old wife, and one in her unborn child’s death,  the Lacrosse Tribune reported.

Prosecutor James “Backstrom said he plans to convene a grand jury to consider indicting Roger Holland for first-degree murder,” the newspaper reported. Bail was set at $1 million.

Holland has professed his innocence, saying (according to a news release from Backstrom) that he called 911 last Thursday when he found his wife wrapped in a blanket, face-down in cardiac arrest at the foot of a staircase in their Apple Valley apartment. Mrs. Holland, “who was nearly four months pregnant, and her unborn child died at a hospital later that morning,” the Lacrosse Tribune reported.

Holland told police that their marriage was good and that they had no financial problems. “But officers searched the couple’s cellphones and found a number of deleted text messages showing arguments about money and Holland’s unauthorized use of his wife’s credit card, according to the criminal complaint,” the newspaper reported. A text message from Margorie Holland the night before she died said she planned to divorce her husband, the complaint said.”

The Lacrosse Tribune also explained that “An autopsy found that broken cartilage in Margorie Holland’s neck was consistent with strangulation, not a fall down stairs, the prosecutor’s office said,” adding, “she also had bruises, abrasions, friction burns, a broken thumbnail on her right hand and a bump on her forehead,” according to the complaint.
