Nebraska Pro-Life Group Boycotts GOP Dinner Over Komen Ties

The statewide pro-life group in Nebraska is boycotting a Republican dinner because of the dinner’s ties to the Komen for the Cure breast cancer foundation, which provides funding to the Planned Parenthood abortion business.

Julie Schmit-Albin, director of Nebraska Right to Life provided a letter to LifeNews that it sent last week:

Mark Fahleson
Chairman
Nebraska Republican Party

Dear Mark,
I am sorry to say that Nebraska Right to Life will not be purchasing the two tickets we normally do for your Senators’ Recognition Dinner on February 28th. The invitation which we received in the mail states that as part of the dinner this year, “the Nebraska Republican Party will host a small silent auction of special items, with proceeds donated to Susan G. Komen of Nebraska for breast cancer research.”
Due to the flap which ensued last February when the national Susan G. Komen Foundation initially announced it would stop funding Planned Parenthood, but then reinstated that funding within a few days, National Right to Life and its State Affiliates have encouraged donors to fund several other breast cancer research organizations which do not have ties to the largest provider and promoter of abortions in the U.S. We understand that your silent auction donations are intended for the Nebraska affiliate of Susan G. Komen which may not have any funding going to Planned Parenthood but the fact remains that the State Affiliate has ties to the National Susan G. Komen Foundation.
This does not send a consistent message when the Republican National Committee just voted at its meeting last week to promote legislative avenues to de-fund Planned Parenthood.
Sincerely,
Julie Schmit-Albin
Executive Director
