A leading pro-life member of Congress who is behind legislation to revoke taxpayer funding for the Planned Parenthood abortion business is not happy about the new annual report it released. Planned Parenthood’s numbers reveal it does one abortion every 94 seconds.

Representative Diane Black, a Tennessee Republican, said, Planned Parenthood’s annual report, showing the organization had provided a record number of abortions during fiscal year 2011-2012, indicates her bill to de-fund it needs to be approved by the House of Representatives.

“As Planned Parenthood’s federal funds reached an all time high, so too did the number of abortions it provided, while its real health services for women continues to decline,” she said in a statement LifeNews received. “This report underscores the pressing need to cut off all federal funding for Planned Parenthood, the largest abortion provider in America. Abortions make up 92 percent of Planned Parenthood’s pregnancy services, while prenatal care and adoption referrals account for less than 8 percent.”

“As a nurse for more than 40 years, I am fully committed to protecting life and know firsthand about the importance of access to women’s health services. Planned Parenthood’s blatant misuse of taxpayer dollars to fund its big abortion business is an attack on life and women’s health. It must be stopped,” Black said.

On Friday, January 4th, Rep. Black re-introduced former Congressman Mike Pence’s (IN) legislation the Title X Abortion Provider Prohibition Act (H.R. 217) which ensures that Title X family planning grants are used for their intended purpose and are prohibited from being used by organizations that provide abortions. Black’s bill has 48 co-sponsors, including Republican Study Committee Chairman Steve Scalise (R-LA), Pro-Life Caucus Co-Chairman Chris Smith (R-NJ) and Values Action Team Co-Chairmen Joe Pitts and John Fleming.

The pro-life measure is also supported by various organizations including, the Susan B. Anthony Group, Family Research Council Action, National Right to Life Committee, Tennessee Right to Life, AUL Action, Concerned Women for America and the Eagle Forum.

“H.R. 217 will clarify the original intent and spirit of the law, so that Title X federally funded grants will no longer be awarded to Planned Parenthood, the largest abortion provider in the United States, or any other organization that abuses their privileges as health care providers and fails to protect life by providing abortions. It is long past time for Congress to respect the will of the American people and stop taxpayer funded abortions – a heinous abuse of the law and destruction of innocent life,” Black explained.

Black noted that, according to Planned Parenthood’s annual report, it received $542 million in taxpayer funding, which is 44 percent of Planned Parenthood’s annual revenue, and performed 333,964 abortions during fiscal year 2011. Their previous annual reporters show that the organization performed 329,445 abortions in 2010 and 332,278 abortions in 2009, bringing the total number of abortions in three years to nearly 1 million abortions.

The new report released by the Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA) showed those abortions were estimated to have generated $150 million dollars for the “nonprofit” organization.

While the number of abortions reached a record high, only 2,300 Planned Parenthood customers were referred to adoption agencies during the 2011-2012 fiscal year.

PPFA’s income included a hefty and ever-increasing check from American taxpayers. In 2009-2010, government funding reached a whopping $487.4 million. In 2010-2011 the figure jumped to $538.5 million. The total for 2011-2012 reached a staggering $542.4 million, which represents 45.2 percent of the group’s total annual budget.

On June 30, 2012, PPFA had net assets valued at $1,244.7 billion, of which $474.5 million was unrestricted, essentially making it a savings account.

In its last annual report, Planned Parenthood did 329,445 abortions in 2010 while it provided prenatal care to only 31,098 women and referred only 841 women to adoption agencies.
