“Imagine having all of the resources of a pregnancy center available right next door to every abortion clinic in America,” says Joe Baker, founder of Save the Storks, whose mission is to take the power of truth to the sidewalks of abortion clinics.
The group relies on ”Stork Buses” to get their message across. These buses are equipped with information and alternatives to abortion-minded mothers, many of whom will take the time to see a sonogram and hear their options even on the days of their scheduled abortions. This mission is successful – three out of five of the women who board a mobile unit choose life after they have received a sonogram of their baby.
“The most beautiful thing about these the Stork Buses is that they truly empower women with alternatives to abortion, provide for emotional and spiritual needs, and allow the mother time to bond with her baby that she would never have if she entered the abortion clinic,” Joe says. ”Trained advocates connect the mothers who choose life with all the wonderful resources of a local pregnancy center, entirely free of charge: counseling, classes, formula, baby cloths, diapers, cribs, car seats and everything else a young mother needs. Many moms will have a lifetime relationship that started in a big blue van parked in front of an abortion center. It’s that simple.”
With one bus up and running, Save the Storks is now looking for a pregnancy center for its second Stork Bus. These buses are state-of-the-art: every inch is custom-designed to meet the needs of a pregnant woman in crisis. “To provide an atmosphere of love, dignity, and respect, the interior is being outfitted by a company that turns Mercedes Sprinter Van’s into limousines for stars like Taylor Swift and Beyoncé!” Joe explains. Pregnancy centers can go online and fill out an application for the next stork bus on the Save the Storks website. Joe says that he hopes to have the next Stork Bus on the road by spring and wants to produce two more buses just like it in 2013.
In addition to helping mothers, Save the Storks is partnering with “And Then There Were None,” a new nonprofit founded by former Planned Parenthood director Abby Johnson as she focuses on providing emotional, spiritual, financial, and legal support to abortion clinic workers who want to transition out of the abortion industry.
“Save the Storks is not your stereotypical group of activists: they don’t carry any signs or megaphones. They won’t shout or condemn anyone,” Joe assures me. ”They are lighthearted, loving, and professional and hope to offer the gospel not only to abortion committed women, but also to every abortion clinic employee.”

Save the Storks depends on small contributions from individual donors to make their vision happen. They estimate that a commitment of only $28 a month for one year is enough to provide an abortion-minded mother options and alternatives and enable her to choose life for her baby.
