Shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School Highlights Value of Life

Some headlines are too horrific to fully comprehend. The massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, CT was one such event.

My mind went immediately to the scores of parents who were at that very moment being told their child was dead. Other families were informed that their loved one who worked at the school also had fallen victim to this unfathomable shooting. Twenty-six people were murdered at the school. Twenty of them were children.

In the wake of this nightmare, President Obama responded, and worldwide attention was focused on the Connecticut town. There was an outpouring of sympathy, prayers and offers to help.

As I browsed the Internet this morning, I looked at the images of the children killed. They were all 6 or 7 years of age. I could hardly bear to look at their young smiling faces when I recalled how violently they had died. And the Christmas season seemed to magnify the tragedy even more.

The world outpouring of shock, grief and love has been as it should be. God created us to reach out to our fellow man at times like these. Then I thought of the other children who have been just as brutally and violently killed, and I wondered, where is the shock? Where is the grief? Where is the outcry?

Every day, about 3,300 unborn children are intentionally killed—yes murdered—not inside schools, but in America’s abortion mills. That’s 165-times the number of precious children killed at Sandy Hook Elementary. Where are the headlines? Where is the Presidential condemnation?

God divinely programmed mankind with the ability to react with shock, the ability to reason that abortion is an evil, violent act and the ability to legally intervene. The appalling tragedy in Connecticut should be a dramatic reminder that blood flows not only in our schools, but in abortion mills throughout the landscape of our nation.

It’s time to do two things. First, get on your knees and pray for all those affected by Friday’s shooting. Pray for God’s mercy and comfort to be upon the families of victims. Then do whatever you’re able to assist those in need, understanding that your options may be limited.

Second, get back on your knees and pray for an end to abortion. Pray also for God’s mercy and comfort to be upon the mothers and fathers who chose abortion. Then do whatever you can to end the slaughter of unborn children. Unlike the Connecticut horror, your options are not limited. Quite the opposite. There’s LOTS you can do. Here’s a link to get you started.

Just as the Sandy Hook slaughter demanded action, so does the daily killing of 165-times the number of victims through abortion. Don’t wait another day to get involved. Help us diminish the body count. Do it now.
