The BBC is creating a comedy series called Way to Go about friends who establish an assisted suicide business.

From a report about the new show:

The Inbetweeners star Blake Harrison is to star in new BBC Three sitcom Way to Go. The six-part series is described as a “black comedy” about three men who set up an assisted-suicide business.

Harrison will play Scott, who devises the desperate scheme when his terminally ill neighbor asks for his help to die and his brother Joey (Ben Heathcote) is in desperate need of cash to pay off his gambling debts.

Marc Wootton (Nativity 2: Danger in the Manger) will also star as Scott and Joey’s friend Cozzo, with Laura Aikman (Casualty), Sinéad Matthews (Ideal) and Hannah Job (Coming of Age) rounding out the regular cast.

Zai Bennett, controller of BBC Three, said: “Bob Kushell’s scripts are in turn dark, poignant, absurd, moving and brilliant. But mostly they are very, very funny. I’m thrilled that Way to Go is coming to BBC Three.”

Bioethics attorney Wesley J. Smith commented on the new show:

I am reminded of the recent The Three Stooges movie homage to the original comic team that had the boys willingly attempt a mercy killing. This is nothing less than the normalization of suicide.

Oh, and by the way, this idea was already proposed for real in Oregon ($5000 for the whole package, including music and flowers), but the psychiatrist would-be entrepreneur lost his medical license for other reasons before he could open the doors. Meanwhile, in Switzerland, suicide clinics rake in the dough.

Culture of death, Wesley? What culture of death?
