Leaders of the national Democratic Party on Wednesday unanimously elected Florida congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz as the new chair of the Democratic National Committee. The pro-abortion stalwart will lead the party during President Barack Obama’s re-election.

Last month, Obama selected the woman who has been called a “heroine” by the president of Planned Parenthood to lead the party as he seeks another four-year term in 2012 that would allow him to expand his massive pro-abortion record and continue packing the Supreme Court and federal courts with activist judges who will uphold Roe v. Wade and 53 million abortions.

The full DNC unanimously ratified Wasserman Schultz’s selection, making her the first woman to head the Democratic Party. According to an AP report, she said after the election she would “make sure that no one outworks” the party when it comes to re-electing Obama. Heading the party, she would work to attract women voters for Obama, attack the pro-life Republican presidential candidates, and work to ensure Obama wins the top battleground state of Florida.

According to a CNN report, Obama praised her election, saying Wasserman Schultz “stays focused and accomplishes goals,” and telling Democrats, “Thanks for supporting Debbie. I know it will be a tough 18 more months but I know we’re going to get this thing done.”

Wasserman Schultz succeeds former Virginia Gov. Tim Kaine, who has stepped down from his chairman post to run for the Senate in his home state.

Wasserman-Schultz is a longtime abortion advocate who has represented a Florida congressional district since 2005 from the Miami-Fort Lauderdale area. Before that she held a post in the Florida state House. After raising over $17 million in campaign contributions for her Democratic colleagues — the third most of any member of the House — party leaders chose her to become the Chief Deputy Whip.

Naming Wasserman-Schultz as the new chairman of the Democratic Party will go over well with top pro-abortion activists, who have developed a very close relationship with the lawmaker who has repeatedly taken to the House floor to defend taxpayer funding of abortions and the Planned Parenthood abortion business.

Last month, Cecile Richards, the president of the national Planned Parenthood abortion business attended a ceremony with pro-abortion First Lady Michelle Obama for an International Women of Courage Awards gala at the State Department. Richards attended the event with Wasserman Schultz and talked about it on Twitter.

“Celebrating the 100th anniversary of International Women’s Day at the White House with First Lady Michelle Obama,” Richards tweeted. “And with two of my heroines for women – [pro-abortion] Congresswomen Debbie Wasserman Schultz and Nita Lowey – you are amazing.”

Immediately after  broke on the abortion advocate’s becoming the head of the Democrats nationally, the pro-abortion group Emily’s List tweeted: “Huge congratulations to EMILY’s List alum Debbie Wasserman Schultz. So proud of Wasserman Schultz becoming Chair of the DNC – she’ll be an incredible leader.”

Last month, the pro-abortion Florida lawmaker, who will not give up her seat in Congress, participated in a conference call to urge support for Planned Parenthood in its battle in Congress to keep its massive taxpayer funding.

Wasserman-Schultz  tried to gloss over the abortion business the $1 billion organization runs.

“Planned Parenthood doctors and nurses screen more than 830,000 women for women for breast cancer, and nearly 1 million for cervical cancer, every year,” she claimed.  “And for many of these women, Planned Parenthood is their only source of healthcare – whether it’s because they can’t afford health insurance, or because they live in a community … where Planned Parenthood is the only local provider of women’s health services.”

However, those breast cancer screenings are of the self-check variety that women can do on their own at home or with the help of a trusted friend or family member.

Recently, Live Action released videotaped footage of calls to 30 Planned Parenthood centers nationwide in 27 different states where abortion facility staff were asked whether or not mammograms could be performed on site. Every one of the Planned Parenthood centers admitted they could not do mammograms. Every Planned Parenthood, without exception, tells the women calling that they will have to go elsewhere for a mammogram, and many clinics admit that no Planned Parenthood clinics provide this breast cancer screening procedure.

“We don’t provide those services whatsoever,” admits a staffer at Planned Parenthood of Arizona while a staffer at Planned Parenthood’s Comprehensive Health Center clinic in Overland Park, Kansas tells a caller, “We actually don’t have a, um, mammogram machine, at our clinics.”

Wasserman-Schultz also upset pro-life advocates during the battle over the life and death of Terri Schiavo, and she attacked pro-life President George W. Bush for signing a bill  to allow her parents and family to take their case to federal courts in an effort to obtain nominal treatment and food and water for Terri.
