Real War on Women: Obamacare Reduces Women’s Health Coverage

President Obama himself says the government has no business being involved in women’s health and what we do with our bodies ought to be our choice, but now conveniently timed “guidelines” from doctors, in partnership with the government run Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has issued guidelines that expand coverage for sexual behavior while reducing real women’s health care coverage, proving where the real “warn on women” lies.

Under Obamacare regulations women now only have a PAP smear covered every three years. In case you aren’t a woman, which the president isn’t, by the way, PAP smears are generally—were generally—part of an annual well-woman exam. However, after Obamacare passed, new cervical cancer screening guidelines were released and suddenly because of that, after years of annual coverage, women are now reporting going for a PAP smear and having it denied as part of their covered exam. As one article notes:

[T]he American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) teamed with the American Cancer Association and the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force to issue new guidelines which pushed back the age at which young women should begin to have internal pelvic exams and suggested that most women only need pap smears once every three years.

A PAP smear, which tests for abnormal (often pre-cancerous) cells, HPV, and cervical cancer, involves a quick scrape of the cervix to test cells. It takes all of 5 seconds and often saves women’s lives when something abnormal is detected.

President Obama clearly thinks PAP smears are important, or at least he keeps saying so when he insists that Planned Parenthood needs its $487 million a year from the government. He keeps saying it’s for “mammograms and cervical cancer screenings.” Well, we know he keeps lying about the mammograms when even the national media, a federal agency, and Planned Parenthood itself say it doesn’t do mammograms, but he keeps saying it. So there are no mammograms, but certainly we need to give Planned Parenthood money for cervical cancer screenings? Except the guidelines just changed this year, partly in partnership with, the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force, and now what most women got annually they now get every 3 to 5 years. Coincidentally, this task force is a part of the HHS, the very same folks who worked on the birth control mandate and health care plan. Surprise.

So what does Planned Parenthood need all that money for if they don’t do mammograms and cervical cancer screenings and/or HPV tests are now only covered every 3-5 years? Shouldn’t we be reducing our funding even because the organization is providing less women’s health care services

Well, you can rest assured, all annual sexual services aren’t gone. For example, annual counseling for sexually transmitted diseases and HIV screening and counseling are covered free under Obamacare.

In what’s become a hallmark of the president’s philosophy, real women’s health care has been shunned in favor of sexual health care. So concerned is our administration about illicit activities that the real causalities are the millions of women who need actual women’s health care not just to prevent pregnancy (which is not a disease), not to kill their baby, not to get their STD treated. HIV, tragic as it is, is not a disease all women need to be screened for annually to feel safe. Cervical cancer is a whole different story. Anyone who has had cancer will tell you that sometimes cells increase rapidly. One has to wonder where the real war on women exists.

It’s clear the real reason the president thinks Planned Parenthood needs all that money is for its mandated contraceptive care because nothing of substance has been added to exams but a whole lot has been taken away. A well-woman exam now involves a basic health history, height and weight, a breast exam (not a mammogram but a basic breast exam anyone can do) and once, every 3-5 years, a PAP smear/HPV test. This information is straight from the government health care website.

Still Mr. Obama is insistent that Planned Parenthood is the only place that can do such things for women.

However, a basic well-woman exam doesn’t even have to be conducted by a gynecologist. When I lived in rural Texas I got my well-woman exams by a nurse practitioner at a medical clinic that was part of a Catholic health system. It was ten minutes from my home; the nearest Planned Parenthood was almost an hour away. I’m really having trouble buying that this multi-million dollar, government-funded, mega-abortion provider does anything unique besides kill babies. This is far too unbelievable to be reality. Except it is.

None of this should really be a surprise with the president’s persistent perversion of America. Just last week the nation was abuzz with the horrific gall of the Obama campaign to liken voting to losing one’s virginity. Casual sexual attitudes are not uncommon from the White House but grow no less tolerable as time goes on.

When people see someone looking at them in an inappropriate sexual way, they often remark they feel “slimed.” That’s sort of how I feel about the Obama administration right now. Everything seems to be sex, birth control, sex, birth control. Abortion. Abortion. Abortion. Certainly a leader of the free world must have more than a one track mind. Instead, he sounds like a Planned Parenthood puppet. Cecile Richards, the organization’s president, pulls on his mouth and he strengthens her purse strings.

And they all lived perversely ever after. Except the millions of babies killed.
