New figures show the Obama re-election campaign and the president’s pro-abortion allies have collectively spent approximately $11 million on advertising on the issue of abortion seeking to influence voters to oppose Mitt Romney.

According to ThinkProgress.org, “Behind the scenes, candidates and outside groups have poured at least $16.8 million into abortion-related advertising during the 2012 cycle, more than two-thirds of which has come from the Obama campaign and its allies.

The ads from groups like Planned Parenthood, NARAL and Obama’s re-election campaign, have taken Romney and pro-life running mate Paul Ryan to task for their opposition to abortion, their desire to revoke taxpayer funding for the nation’s biggest abortion business and have relied on fictitious concerns that Romney and Ryan are opposed to better health care for women.

The total figure is nearly twice the amount spent on Medicare-related advertising in 2012 and three times as much as groups have spent on immigration-related spots, according to the media tracking firm CMAG/Kantar Media.”

After evaluating news of anti-life advertising, Americans United for Life Action President Charmaine Yoest said “If there is a “war” going on over abortion, it is the abortion lobby and its political allies who are engaging in the attack – an all-out assault on truth in this pivotal election.”

“The abortion lobby is targeting women voters with alarmism, false information and misleading claims,” noted Dr. Yoest. “But the fact is, the radical expansion of abortion under the Obama Administration puts the United States in the company of the four most extreme nations on abortion policy in world. The U.S., North Korea, China, and Canada – alone out of 195 other nations – allow for abortion through all nine months, for any reasons whatsoever, including sex selection, and sometimes even with government subsidies.”

Yoest says pro-life voters need to be concerned about one key issue – the largest expansion of abortion since Roe v. Wade found in the heathcare law. But also at stake, the future of the Supreme Court, where President Obama could appoint at least three new pro-abortion judges with lifetime tenure, she noted.

Americans United for Life Action is fully engaged in the election through “Team Life 2012” with such partners as the Bott Broadcasting Network and leaders like former Governor Mike Huckabee, former presidential candidate Gary Bauer, Senator Roy Blunt, and many others. The goal of the camapign is to get pro-life voters excited about casting their votes this election and encouraging others to do so.
