Pro-Life Groups Blast Democrats for Abortion-Palooza Convention

The first day of the Democratic convention was filled with speakers repeating the same mantra over and over: we must celebrate abortion and Mitt Romney is an extremist because he has pro-life values and supports religious liberty.

NARAL president Nancy Keenan spent several minutes attacking Romney on abortion and his opposition to forcing religious groups that pay for or refer women for abortion-causing drugs. First Lady Michelle Obama made it clear that her husband, President Barack Obama is steadfastly committed to abortion.

Carol Tobias, President of National Right to Life, said it is not surprising to her that Democrats showed off their pro-abortion extremism on their fist night in Charlotte.

“It’s not surprising that speakers tonight at the Democratic National Convention made no attempt to disguise the abortion extremism of the Democratic platform and President Barack Obama,” Tobias told LifeNews.

“NARAL President Nancy Keenan used her speech to make DNC 2012 the abortion convention as she proudly proclaimed the Democratic Party’s support for abortion. It’s understandable given the shared and unwavering dedication of NARAL and the President to the policy of abortion on demand without limits,” she said. “Following Keenan, Secretary of Health and Human Services Kathleen Sebelius praised Obamacare, which will lead to expanded insurance coverage for abortion.”

“Every day, more than 3,000 mothers across the country have abortions,” Tobias continued. “These women and their children deserve better than a violent procedure that leaves one dead and one wounded. But you won’t hear that at this year’s DNC. Look no further than their platform to see how extreme and out of touch with Americans they truly are. Even with 59% of Americans opposing the vast majority of abortions, and still more than 1.2 million abortions annually in this country, the Democratic Party has never seen any limit on abortion they liked, or any abortion they opposed.”

“As the DNC begins to showcase their pro-abortion extremism in Charlotte, the differences between Barack Obama and the pro-life ticket of Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan have never been more clear,” Tobias concluded.

Marjorie Dannenfelser, president of Susan B. Anthony List, also condemned President Obama’s abortion agenda and how the Democratic Party’s platform plank cemented it by supporting abortion in all circumstances and funded with taxpayer dollars. https://www.lifenews.com/2012/09/04/democratic-platform-opposes-any-effort-to-stop-abortions/

“This week abortion advocates including NARAL’s Nancy Keenan and Planned Parenthood’s Cecile Richards will stand on stage at the DNC and celebrate a position radically out of step with mainstream Americans: taxpayer funding of abortion for any reason, up until the moment of birth,” she said. “Despite what these women will claim about the Romney-Ryan ticket, President Obama and his team are the real extremists on abortion.”

“Not only has Barack Obama heartlessly refused to support a ban on sex-selection abortion and late-term abortions past the point at which unborn children feel pain, he voted four times to deny constitutional protection to children born alive after a failed abortion – preferring to leave their fate to the abortionist who, only moments before, sought to kill them,” the pro-life women’s leader continued. “The SBA List will continue working tirelessly to educate voters on the President’s abortion record so that come November, his extremism will be rejected.”

Dannenfelser said national polling shows the majority of Americans support bans on sex-selection abortion and late-term abortion past the point at which scientific research shows unborn children can feel pain. Polling released by the Charlotte Lozier Institute, the education and research arm of the Susan B. Anthony List, found that 77 percent of Americans (80 percent of women) support banning sex-selective abortion.

Similarly, a recent poll commissioned by the National Right to Life Committee found that 63 percent of Americans (70 percent of women) support legislation to ban abortions past the point at which unborn children feel pain. The NRLC poll also found that American women, by an overwhelming majority of 62-27 percent, would be more likely to vote for lawmakers who support this bill. President Obama has refused to support either measure.
