Planned Parenthood Applauds Supreme Court Obamacare Ruling

Obamacare never had the support of pro-life organizations because of the abortion funding components of the health care “reform” law, but it enjoyed strong support from Planned Parenthood — which worked with the Obama Administration to craft the law.

Not surprisingly, the abortion giant applauded Thursday’s ruling upholding the law as constitutional — though it never mentions the abortion funding, preferring to couch its support in flowery phrases about women’s health.

“The Supreme Court’s ruling upholding the Affordable Care Act marks a critical victory for the health of all Americans. Because of this landmark decision, millions of women and families will have access to affordable, quality health care – many of whom previously had inadequate coverage or no coverage at all,” the abortion business said. “We understand how this law will have an unprecedented effect on women’s health. The law ends discriminatory practices against women, such as charging women higher premiums and denying coverage for “pre-existing conditions.” And in just six weeks, women will gain access to birth control without a co-pay – which will have a tremendous economic impact on already stretched family budgets.”

“Planned Parenthood health centers already provide basic health care to nearly three million patients every year, and to 11,000 in Delaware alone. Because this landmark law has been upheld, we know we will be able to do even more for the communities we serve in the years ahead,” it added.

Cecile Richards, the president of the pro-abortion group, further applauded the ruling in a fundraising email to supporters. She is now worried pro-life groups and Republicans will work together to repeal it should President Barack Obama lose his re-election bid and pro-life advocates re-take the Senate.

“If you had any doubt about how important your support for Planned Parenthood truly is, Thursday’s Supreme Court decision upholding health care reform should have ended it,” she said. “The Supreme Court ruling was a tremendous victory for women’s health — but opponents are already working to repeal the law.”

Richards mentions nothing of abortion and forcing taxpayers to fund abortions, but relies on talk of non-abortion women’s health, which pro-life advocates don’t oppose.

“If anti-women’s health lawmakers have their way, millions of Americans will lose access to basic care. Insurance companies will once again be allowed to discriminate against women with rates up to 150 percent higher than what men pay. They’ll have the power to deny coverage to anybody with a preexisting condition — including women who have received treatment for domestic or sexual violence. And employers will be given the power to deny women coverage for birth control,” she said. “We can’t let that happen.”

The Supreme Court issued a 5-4 decision essentially upholding the Obamacare law that pro-life groups regard as the biggest expansion of abortion and abortion funding since Roe v. Wade. The law also drew strong opposition from the pro-life community not only over abortion but because the legislation also promotes rationing of medical care that could lead to involuntarily denying lifesaving treatment.

The Supreme Court has incorrectly ruled that Obamacare is constitutional, pro-life groups said in response to the decision. They pointed out that the need is greater now than ever to defeat pro-abortion President Barack Obama and elect a pro-life Senate that will join the House in repealing the legislation.

“All voters who care about the value and dignity of human life must do everything they can to elect Mitt Romney and a Congress who are committed to repeal of ObamaCare,” said National Right to Life President Carol Tobias. “If President Obama wins re-election, it will mean massive abortion subsidies and it will put the lives of millions at risk through systematic government-imposed rationing of lifesaving medical care.”

Tobias said the U.S. Supreme Court ruling upholding most of the ObamaCare law is a call-to-action for the right-to-life electorate to work to elect a Congress and president this November committed to repealing ObamaCare in 2013, in order to prevent a future in which abortion insurance will be heavily subsidized by federal taxpayers and federal bureaucrats will be authorized to ration life-saving medical treatment.

Under the enacted law, federal tax-based subsidies will begin in 2014 to subsidize millions of private insurance plans that will cover abortion-on-demand, including some plans (“multi-state plans”) that will be administered by the federal government. Under another provision of the law, the federal government could even order many plans that do not receive federal subsidies to cover abortion as a “preventive” service.  The law also created an array of other mechanisms and funding pipelines by which access to and subsidies for abortion can be expanded if President Obama wins a second term.

Moreover, few Americans realize that under ObamaCare, private citizens’ right to spend their own money to save the lives of their own families will be subject to drastic restriction, NRLC said.
