Obama Promotes Planned Parenthood in Speech to Students

On the campaign trail in Durham, New Hampshire yesterday, pro-abortion President Barack Obama once again promoted the nation’s biggest abortion business. This time, he plugged Planned Parenthood in a speech to high school students.

Obama gave students a list of the reasons Americans should consider re-electing him for another four years and mentioned his support for Planned Parenthood, funding the abortion business with taxpayer dollars and forcing religious groups to subsidize birth control as reasons why.

“In this election, on every single challenge that we face, you’ve got the final say,” Obama told students at Oyster River High School in Durham, according to a CNS News report.

“You can decide that instead of restricting access to birth control or defunding Planned Parenthood, we should make sure that in this country, women control their own health care choices. That’s up to you,” Obama added

Last month, Obama promoted the abortion business in another speech on the campaign trail.

“We don’t need another political fight about ending a woman’s right to choose, or getting rid of Planned Parenthood or taking away affordable birth control. We don’t need that. I want women to control their own health choices, just like I want my daughters to have the same economic opportunities as my sons. We’re not turning back the clock. We’re not going back there.”

In California, the pro-abortion president said virtually the same thing:

“We don’t need another political fight about ending a woman’s right to choose, or getting rid of Planned Parenthood, or taking away access to affordable birth control,” Obama said. “I want women to control their own health care choices, just like I want my daughters to have the same opportunities as my sons. We’re not rolling back the clock.”

And in Denver, Obama repeated the campaign speech lines:

“We certainly don’t need another political fight about ending a woman’s right to choose, or get rid of Planned Parenthood, or taking away affordable birth control. I want women to control their own health choices, just like I want my daughters to have the same opportunities as your sons.”

Obama’s positions are at odds with the majority of the American people.

A majority of Americans, in a new Rasmussen Reports national poll, oppose the Obama HHS mandate. The latest telephone survey finds that 51% of likely voters do not believe the government should require churches or other organizations to provide contraceptives if it violates their deeply held religious beliefs.

Seventy-three percent (73%) of Republicans and 55% of voters not affiliated with either of the major parties do not think the government should force churches and other organizations to violate their religious beliefs to provide contraceptive coverage. Fifty-eight percent (58%) of Democrats disagree.

And a recent Gallup poll indicated fifty-nine percent of Americans say abortion should be illegal in most or all circumstances. The poll found 39 percent said abortion should be legal only in a few circumstances and 20 percent said it should be illegal in all circumstances, for a total of 59 percent who want all or most abortions illegal.

By contrast, 25 percent said abortion should be legal in all circumstances and 13 percent said it should be legal in most circumstances. That’s a mere 38 percent, less than four in ten Americans, who say all or most abortions should remain legal.

Just 12 percent agree with pro-abortion President Barack Obama saying “abortion should be available to a woman any time she wants one during her entire pregnancy.”

On the other hand, Republican opponent Mitt Romney called for de-funding Planned Parenthood earlier this year.

“I also feel that the government should cut off funding to Planned Parenthood,”said. “Look, the idea that we’re subsidizing an institution that provides abortion, in my view, is wrong. Planned Parenthood oughta stand on its own feet and should not get government subsidy.”

Romney also touted his pro-life credentials, saying, “I am a pro-life individual, I was a pro-life governor, I served as a pro-life governor, I’m a pro-life candidate. I simply do not want to participate in anything that takes the lives of an unborn child.”

Romney has called for de-funding Planned Parenthood previously.

In November, Romney had an opinion columnin USA Today in which he advocated numerous ways to balance the federal budget, one of which involves eliminate funding to Planned Parenthood.

Romney proposes repealing Obamacare — which pro-life groups virtually unanimously opposed because of concerns related to taxpayer funding of abortions, rationing issues, and lack of conscience protections for pro-life medical workers. He says that will save $95 billion in 2016.

The fourth item on Romney’s list is one that will delight the pro-life voters he needs to secure the GOP nomination to face Obama:  “Eliminate Title X family planning programs benefiting abortion groups like Planned Parenthood.”

Romney previously pledged to de-fund the Planned Parenthood abortion business in October during his speech before the Values Voter Summit.

“Our values must also encompass the life of an unborn child,” Romney told the thousands of pro-life advocates gathered for the Family Research Council event. “There are, of course, strong convictions on both sides of this issue. Yet it speaks well of our country that almost all Americans recognize that abortion is a problem.”

“The law may call it a right, but no one ever called it a good. And in the quiet of conscience, people of both political parties know that more than a million abortions a year can’t be squared with the good heart of America,” Romney said.

The former governor pivoted from a philosophical position to talking about his political views and what he would do if elected president.

“I support the Hyde Amendment, which broadly bars the use of federal funds for abortions,” Romney said, “As president, I’ll end federal funding for abortion advocates like Planned Parenthood. I’ll protect a health care worker’s right to follow their conscience in their work.”

“I will nominate judges who know the difference between personal opinion and law. It is long past time for the Supreme Court to return the issue of abortion back to the states by overturning Roe v. Wade,” he added.
