The Planned Parenthood abortion business is supporting the attempt by Democrats in Wisconsin to recall pro-life Gov. Scott walker. Planned Parenthood Advocates of Wisconsin is behind the effort because of Walker’s efforts to protect women and unborn children.
The abortion business issued a press release today filled with pejoratives attacking Walker, claiming he has engaged in a “continued and unprecedented attack on Wisconsin’s women and families.”
The pro-abortion group said:
“Relentless and reckless legislative actions backed by Walker will result in the loss of affordable essential health care services for thousands of Wisconsin women and families during this economic crisis. The push to restrict access to reproductive health care and information continues this week with a round of public hearings to repeal the Healthy Youth Act on Wednesday (AB 337) as well as a hearing on Thursday to ban private insurance coverage of abortion (AB 154). These latest attacks on reproductive health supported by Governor Walker offer timely examples of misplaced priorities that are wrong for Wisconsin.”
“Never before have we seen a governor act so quickly and against the wants and priorities of Wisconsin to restrict such a wide range of women’s health care services,” added Tanya Atkinson, Executive Director of PPAWI. “We have seen a year full of unprecedented attacks against common sense public health policies that benefit the women and families of Wisconsin.”
Walker’s biggest crime in the eyes of the abortion business is signing legislation to revoke some of its taxpayer funding. With Walker signing the state budget into law in June, Wisconsin became the fourth to cut funding for the Planned Parenthood abortion business — following decisions by Indiana, North Carolina and Kansas to revoked funding entirely.
The legislation redirects $1 million in state and federal family planning funds away from Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin. In 2010 Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin received more than $18 million in federal and state family planning funds that it claims has reduced abortions. However, the abortion business did 5,439 abortions in 2009, a 56% increase from 2008.
Wisconsin Right to Life praised Walker, with legislative director Susan Armacost saying, “Governor Walker and the state legislature acted courageously to protect Wisconsin taxpayers from having their tax dollars used to destroy human life. While there is more work to be done to protect taxpayers from paying for abortions, this state budget has greatly improved the situation. On behalf of Wisconsin Right to Life members and supporters throughout the state, we extend our heartfelt thanks to Governor Walker and the legislature.”
The last attempt by Democrats and abortion advocates to recall pro-life advocates didn’t go as well as planned. Despite pro-abortion and liberal groups spending tens of millions of dollars to support pro-abortion candidates in a bid to take over the Wisconsin state Senate from pro-life lawmakers, pro-life legislators won.
In four of the six districts with competitive recall races, Republicans won four — as Senators Alberta Darling, Robert Cowles, Luther Olsen and Sheila Harsdorf were victorious in their hard-fought elections. Wisconsin voters clearly chose to support Republicans who took pro-life stances and has the support of Wisconsin Right to Life and political observers say the results, in a state that leans to the left political in presidential politics, could be an indicator of good things to come in 2012.
Armacost responded to the results saying, the pro-life group is celebrating the victory.
“”Planned Parenthood and the pro-abortion movement may have had more money and resources but we outmatched them in getting our supporters to the polls and that is what always matters the most in any election,” she said. “The stakes were extremely high. Had the State Senate fallen back into the hands of a pro-abortion majority, our life-saving legislative agenda would have come to a grinding halt. The real losers would have been the unborn.”
“We want to thank the hundreds of our dedicated volunteers who worked round the clock to help secure this victory. And we thank our wonderful members and supporters who cast their ballots for Wisconsin Right to Life PAC-supported candidates,” Armacost said.
