The October Baby movie is headed to more theaters today and this weekend as it continues piling up successful figures at the box office and now faces attacks from pro-abortion groups.

After opening in nearly 400 theaters last month, October Baby heads into new territory beginning Friday when 223 new theaters begin showing what Courageous director Alex Kendrick calls, “a great movie with a great message.”

While the movie will be showing through Thursday at each of these new theaters, if you are near a new location, make plans to see it this weekend. A strong weekend showing will encourage theaters to keep the movie beyond its first week.

Tim Wildmon, President of the American Family Association, which is sponsoring the film, said the movie is generating significant buzz still.

“Initially opening in a modest 390 theaters, this powerful pro-life movie continues to win over audiences nationwide,” he said. “Today, I am pleased to report that your grassroots support has fueled the film’s expansion. Entering its fourth weekend in theaters after debuting as the No. 8 movie in the country, October Baby now expands to 223 new screens.”

“I want to encourage you to go see October Baby this weekend. If you’ve already seen it, it is worth seeing again. If you haven’t, please don’t miss one of the most inspiring movies you’ll ever see,” he said. “October Baby is not just another “pro-life” movie. It’s a full-length motion picture with a story that will have you laughing and crying at the same time. It affirms life and it affirms a Christian worldview.”

As LifeNews reported, NARAL is attacking the pro-life October Baby film currently playing in hundreds of movie theaters across the country because proceeds from ticket sales benefit pregnancy centers providing women abortion alternatives.

Virginia Cline, the Director of Public Relations & Public Policy for Heartbeat International, responded to those attacks.

“Because of its success and the filmmakers support for life-affirming nonprofits, October Baby is being attacked by NARAL (formerly the National Association for the Repeal of Abortion Laws),” she told LifeNews. “This pro-abortion group is seeking signatures for their letter to the CEO of Sony Music Entertainment (the parent company of the film’s distributor) voicing their disgust in the movie’s pro-life and pro-family values. NARAL specifically named Heartbeat International in their petition for signatures.”

“Backed by thousands of our supporters, Heartbeat International is sending a “thank you” letter to Sony CEO Doug Morris. We are asking those who want to see October Baby in more theaters to sign on to our letter of support. We have already received more than 3,000 signatures in the first 24 hours and the number keeps climbing,” she said. “Please sign the letter today to support October Baby, a movie that communicates positive values. Thank you for standing with Heartbeat International as we work to strengthen families.”

Cline also encouraged pro-life advocates to see the movie.

“Opening at No. 8 in the nation after a limited release, October Baby is a compelling movie that offers healing to those who have struggled through broken relationships. This heart-warming story of an abortion survivor’s hope and redemption advances to 223 additional theaters this weekend,” she added. “With more than 104,000 fans on Facebook and listed number three by Fandango, October Baby is making a difference.  Lives have been touched and changed by this landmark film.”
