Stand Up for Religious Freedom Rallies Say Tyranny Won’t Stand

Today is an important day for the ProLife movement, in over 140 cities across the country, people of faith and conscience peacefully assembled this afternoon to protest the Obama/HHS/Abortion Drug (what’ve you want to call it) Mandate.

President Reagan once said, “Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction. We didn’t pass it to our children in the bloodstream. It must be fought for, protected, and handed on for them to do the same, or one day we will spend our sunset years telling our children and our children’s children what it was once like in the United States where men were free.”

Today is the 2nd anniversary of the passage of Obamacare. The landmark piece of legislation that passed in the Senate on Christmas Eve, the legislation we were told that had to be passed into law before we could read it, and the legislation President Obama made promises he never could fulfill so it would pass the House… like his promise that taxpayers wouldn’t be funding abortion.

Is it because of this piece of legislation that Americans had to gather today. Obamacare gave our government, namely the Department of Health and Human Services, my old workplace, the ability to shape the future of our nation and determine who lives and who dies in our society. Never before has our nation seen so much control given to one department, to one person: Secretary Kathleen Sebelius.

Because of this unconstitutional mandate, we have been told that our beliefs and our consciences no longer matter. We are told that the government can force its people to pay for drugs and procedures against their beliefs; that employers like myself, of faith and conscience, must pay 100% of the cost for our employees to take abortion causing drugs; and that universities and their students paying into campus health care plans must fund the cost of these drugs and procedures at 100% for any other student who wishes to use them.

This is called tyranny. This is the type of tyranny that our forefathers fled from Europe and why our great nation was founded. It is our freedom which makes this nation exceptional and that which separates us from many other nations around the world which enslave their countrymen.

The HHS/Abortion Drug Mandate affects every American, regardless of their religion or view on abortion-causing drugs. If the government can force Americans to choose between violating their consciousness or paying steep penalties, what religious or idealogical demographic will they target next? Muslims, Buddhists,  vegans?

What more can the government do? What is their next step? Already, Secretary Sebelius is on Congressional record admitting that the motivations behind this Mandate are to reduce pregnancies and save healthcare monies. Who will they target next in the name of saving money? The elderly, the handicapped, people like my son, Gunner, who suffer from cystic fibrosis?

I truly believe that for our nation to survive, for our freedoms and individual liberties to survive, for us to survive, the HHS/Abortion Drug Mandate cannot stand.

Today is the day when all Americans must stand up and draw a line in the sand and say “No More!” No more shall we remain silent, we must fight to expose this unconstitutional injustice.
