Pro-Life Groups Announce Voter Registration Sundays for 2012

The 2012 presidential election is monumentally important for the pro-life movement as pro-life advocates look to replace pro-abortion President Barack Obama with one of the many pro-life candidates seeking the GOP nomination. But, that effort will be jeopardized if pro-life citizens are not registered to vote.

To ensure that every pro-life adult is registered to vote in the 2012 presidential elections, the Vote Pro-life Coalition, an ad hoc group of dozens of pro-life organizations, including LifeNews.com, has announced three Voter Registration Sundays where pro-life groups will work with churches and on their own in communities across the country to register pro-life voters.

Fr. Frank Pavone, the national director of Priests for Life, which organized the Vote Pro-life Coalition under its political responsibility outreach, designated the three days. He said the Coalition is asking organizations, churches, and Catholic dioceses to begin learning how to conduct a non-partisan voter registration drive, and to begin planning now to give their people the urgent invitation and opportunity to register to vote.

The dates of next year’s Voter Registration Sundays are May 27, the date of Pentecost in the Christian church, July 1, the Sunday closest to Independence Day, and September 9, the Sunday closest to Patriot Day.

Pavone said pro-life groups and individual pro-life advocates should get involved because the 2012 election is so important. With, at best, a 5-4 pro-abortion majority on the Supreme Court, Roe v. Wade hangs in the balance and the next president may have the ability to name the next Supreme Court justice who could turn the tables on the high court decision that has resulted in 54 million abortions.

“The elections of 2012 will be crucial to restoring protection to the unborn, and every day between now and Nov. 6, 2012, my colleagues and I will do all in our power to see to it that the elections advance the cause of life,” Pavone told LifeNews.  “One of the most important things our coalition groups are doing now is to urge their members to pay attention to the candidate debates and get to know those who are presenting themselves for the highest office in our land.”
