Planned Parenthood Annual Report Shows Profits, Abortions Increase

Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) — The latest annual report for Planned Parenthood, the nation’s largest abortion business, has been produced and the results show that both profits and the number of abortions are on the rise.
The Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA) report for 2002-2003 shows that it performed 227,385 abortions in 2002, an increase of 6.7 percent over the number of abortions it performed during 2001.
Though the group is a nonprofit, Planned Parenthood reports making $36.6 million last year, a 300 percent increase over 2001.
Planned Parenthood had a record income of $766.6 million and the money it received in taxpayer funds reached an all-time high of $254.4 million. The government funding exceeded the amount of donations it received in both 2002 and 2001.
The latest report came as disappointing news to Jim Sedlak, executive director of STOPP International, a group that monitor’s Planned Parenthood’s activities.
"Planned Parenthood claims it seeks to reduce abortion, but its abortion numbers are skyrocketing — over 3 million in its own facilities since 1970," Sedlak said.
Sedlak explained that that Texas Health Department recently revealed numbers showing the number of abortions in Bryan, Texas increased 153 percent when Planned Parenthood opened an abortion center there. "The evidence is clear. More Planned Parenthood facilities means more abortions," he said.
Dr. Randy O’Bannon, director of the department of education for National Right to Life, agreed.
"Planned Parenthood has become more committed to abortion than ever before," O’Bannon told LifeNews.com.
"National abortion numbers have been dropping substantially over the past decade or so while women have become more aware of the humanity of their unborn children," O’Bannon explained. "Yet, the number of abortions at Planned Parenthood have gone steadily up and they have reached another record year."
Though the abortion business claims to promotion alternatives, Planned Parenthood also draws criticism for performing significantly more abortions than it does adoption referrals. According to Sedlak, Planned Parenthood did 115 abortions for ever adoption referral it made.
