Singer Kanye West is no stranger to controversy and more is coming his way thanks to a controversial tweet he sent out on Twitter concerning abortion.

The rapper hinted not so subtly that there are women who intentionally get pregnant so they can extort money from their husband or boyfriend (or one night-stand participant) so to pay for an abortion and keep quiet about it.

“An abortion can cost a [black man] up to 50 Gs, maybe a 100,” West said. “Gold diggin’ [women] be getting pregnant on purpose. It ain’t happen to me but I know people.”

Reaction across the Internet and in the entertainment world was fast and furious to the late Wednesday night tweet from West.

One person who is unhappy with the West message is Lily Allen, a fellow musician who last fall miscarried her second baby in two years. She suffered a miscarriage last November while six months pregnant and also had a miscarriage two years ago. She has defended the outlandish rap star and his tweets in the past, but not this time.

“Never has a tweet put me in such a bad mood,” she said on Twitter. “This is wrong on so many levels.”

The controversial West comments on abortion follow remarks pop singer Justin Bieber gave on the subject — where he expressed his pro-life views and receive both strong support and opposition.

“I really don’t believe in abortion. I think it [an unborn child] is a human. It’s like killing a baby,” Bieber said.

Asked about abortion in cases of rape or incest, he added:  “Um. Well, I think that’s really sad, but everything happens for a reason. I don’t know how that would be a reason. I guess I haven’t been in that position, so I wouldn’t be able to judge that,” he told Rolling Stone.

Bieber has received strong support from pro-life advocates for his comments and several pro-life groups, including LifeNews.com, have put together a Facebook page supporting him.
