Just as Planed Parenthood nationally is doing more abortions and making more money, a new report from its Indiana affiliate finds the same situation.
Indiana’s largest abortion business, Planned Parenthood of Indiana, is reporting 5,580 abortions done in 2010, an increase of more than 2% in the number of surgical and drug-induced abortions it did in 2009. The figure is almost 130 more than the 5,452 reported abortions for 2009.
Planned Parenthood of Indiana annually does more than 50% of the total chemical and surgical abortions done in Indiana, when comparing its own figures to those of abortions done annually statewide as shown by the state health department.
The numbers come from the new annual report posted on the website of the abortion business and they show the abortion increase comes at the same time that ratio of abortions to pregnancy tests has increased — making it clear Planned Parenthood pushing more women into abortions than they assist with having a baby.
The ratio of abortions to pregnancy tests increased to one abortion per every 3.79 pregnancy tests in 2010 (5,580 abortions vs. 21,156 pregnancy tests) as compared to one abortion per every 4.25 pregnancy tests in 2009 (5,452 abortions vs. 23,151 pregnancy tests).
Meanwhile, Planned Parenthood of Indiana is reporting revenue of $15,670,306 in 2010 with $2,008,760 coming from government contracts and grants.
Mike Fichter, the executive director of Indiana Right to Life, lamented the figures in an email to LifeNews.com.
“Planned Parenthood of Indiana’s rise in abortions is a clear indicator that abortion remains at the core of everything this organization is about,” he said. This abortion rate increase is further evidence that state tax dollars can be better spent elsewhere as opposed to fueling Indiana’s largest abortion business.”
Fichter also noted that Planned Parenthood released new figures earlier today showing it made just five adopted placements in 2010. That’s a whopping 1,116 abortions for every 1 adoption placement.
“Planned Parenthood and abortion go hand-in-hand,” says Fichter. “Indiana will never reduce its abortion rate by funding an organization that has a vested financial interest in doing more and more abortions.” [related]
The increase in abrotions also came despite Planned Parenthood of Indiana closed five centers after an undercover video showed it covering up a potential case of statutory rape.
Last year alone, according to Planned Parenthood’s own annual report, it received more than $363 million in revenue from government grants and contracts. During that same timeframe, it did 324,008 abortions, a 5.8 percent increase from the previous year, which also set a record high at that time.
