Before the annual march for Life begins marking the 53 million abortions that have taken place since Roe v. Wade, pro-life advocates will protest the abortions LeRoy Carhart is doing in Maryland.

Carhart, a late-term abortion practitioner from Nebraska, relocated to Maryland after the Midwestern state passed an abortion ban that prohibits abortions after 20 weeks because of the intense pain a baby feels during the abortion. He now works at Reproductive Health Services, a longtime abortion center near the nation’s capital.

With the March for Life taking place on Monday, January 24, and hundreds of thousands of pro-life advocates coming to Washington the weekend before, Operation Rescue hopes some of them will be able to join them for a protest and rally.

“The rally will focus on efforts to stop abortion, especially late-term abortions currently conducted by Nebraska abortionist LeRoy Carhart, who recently hired on to Germantown Reproductive Health Services after a new law banned late-term abortions in his home state,” says OR president Troy Newman. “The following day, there will be a prayer march outside the abortion clinic.”

Newman will be a featured speaker at the Saturday evening rally along with Rev. Patrick Mahoney of the Christian Defense Coalition and Brandi Swindell of Generation Life.

“We encourage everyone who will be in the Washington, DC area over the Roe v. Wade Memorial to come to these exciting events,” said Newman.

“With just a few days’ notice, pro-lifers activated and put two protests on the street each boasting of over 600 people to pray and stand against Carhart’s late-term baby killing business. The pro-abortionists think that was just a flash in the pan, but they underestimate the resolve of people of faith and conscience,” he added. “Please join me in Germantown at this critical time to help us kick Carhart and abortion out of Maryland.”

So many people showed up to the local protests  that local police officials cordoned off an area for the pro-life advocates and set up a command post near the Reproductive Health Services Clinic in case any incidents occurred between peaceful pro-life advocates and pro-abortion counterprotestors.

Kristan Hawkins, director of Students for Life, joined clergy and national pro-life representatives to oppose him expanding his late-term abortion business by starting abortions at a local center that hired him.

“It is so important that Americans stand for Life today as LeRoy Carhart begins his late term abortion career in Maryland,” she said. “An overwhelming majority of Americans opposes late-term abortions, period. Snuffing out the life of a precious 9-month child in the womb is not choice.”
