Jefferson City, MO (LifeNews.com) — Voters in Missouri have a clear choice in the campaign for the United States Senate. The Missouri Right to Life political action committee today announced the pro-life candidate to support of Roy Blunt, while noting Robin Carnahan is pro-abortion.

As a seven-term Congressman, Rep. Blunt has been a consistent voice for life with a 100% pro-life voting record.

Missouri Right to Life greatly appreciates Roy Blunt’s commitment to the sanctity of human life, the group told LifeNews.com in making the endorsement announcement.

"Missouri Right to Life PAC urges Missourians who respect life to strongly support Roy Blunt’s campaign," Pam Fichter, the president of Missouri Right to Life, said.

"We know his opponent, Robin Carnahan, has the backing of the abortion industry, and if elected, would be a consistent anti-life vote. In contrast, Roy Blunt has proven his desire to protect innocent human life from conception to natural death, as well as to prevent taxpayer support for abortion in federal health-care legislation," she said.

Fichter added that "Roy Blunt has proven he has the experience and knowledge to stand up for the sanctity of human life."

"As America faces the challenges ahead, Missouri needs a Senator who understands these issues and has consistently demonstrated his pro-life commitment," she said.

Polling data in Missouri shows Carnahan having a lead most of last year, but Blunt getting an advantage starting in January and leading in every poll since then. His lead had ben anywhere from 4-8 percent, depending on the poll, but dropped to one percent this month.

The June 3 Rasmussen poll of likely voters found Blunt ahead 45-44 percent.with 4 percent backing another candidate and six percent undecided.

"This marks a tightening of the race from recent months. This is the weakest showing for Blunt since last September," pollster Scott Rasmussen said, noting Carnahan has been on the attack concerning other political issues.

Blunt, who has opposed the pro-abortion national health care bill from the start, now supports repealing it, a views shared by 55% of Missouri voters. Thirty-nine percent (39%) oppose repeal in Missouri. Those numbers could help him get back on track.

Both candidates are members of well-known political families in the state.

Blunt, a member of Congress since 1997, has held the number two GOP position in the House, serving as minority whip. His son was governor of Missouri from 2005 to 2009. Carnahan is the daughter of an ex-senator and a former governor. The seat they are running for is being vacated by retiring Republican Senator Kit Bond
