Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) — The following is a collection of statements form pro-life organization’s on today’s nomination of pro-abortion Solicitor general Elena Kagan to replace retiring pro-abortion Justice John Paul Stevens:

Americans United for Life president Charmaine Yoest: "Americans do not support a radical abortion-rights activist taking a fill-in-the-blank approach to the U.S. Constitution.”

“President Obama has chosen another activist who seeks to reshape the traditional understanding of the Constitution to suit her personal views. Kagan has been open in her admiration of activist judges who re-write the law to suit themselves and advocated that judges ‘advance’ social policy rather than faithfully applying the law. "

"She is an ardent abortion supporter, even arguing the federal government is subsidizing ‘anti-abortion speech’ when, in Title X, the federal government is prohibited from referring women for abortion."

“We know that Kagan embraces judicial activism and abortion-on-demand. It’s how she will turn her views into law that is hidden to the American people. Kagan is a stealth candidate; a woman with an open and extreme philosophy but no track record on how she will implement her own judicial activism. Obama is taking too great a risk with America’s future with the Kagan pick.”

Marjorie Dannenfelser, President, Susan B. Anthony List: "Kagan, a longtime Obama ally with a paper-thin legal record, having never served as a judge, is a strong supporter of abortion. If confirmed to sit on the Supreme Court, Kagan will serve as a rubber stamp for President Obama’s radical pro-abortion agenda."

"Kagan publicly opposed Rust v. Sullivan, a Supreme Court decision that upheld the right of Health and Human Services to restrict funding for groups that performed or promoted abortion. Additionally, Kagan strongly believes that pregnancy resource centers should be barred from counseling teens in crisis pregnancies."

Troy Newman, President of Operation Rescue: "Kagan’s support for abortion and her predisposition for judicial activism makes her a poor selection. We need a justice that will uphold the Constitution, not rewrite it though judicial activism. It is clear that as long as Obama is president, we cannot expect anything other than the nomination of radical liberal pro-aborts, even though those with that political philosophy and agenda are opposed by the majority of the American people."

"We know that all babies will never be safe until the laws of our nation are amended to provide pre-born children with the necessary legal protections. For those laws to be amended and upheld, we will require a conservative majority on the Court. While we must work to oppose Kagan’s nomination to the Supreme Court, we will also continue to work through proven peaceful, legal strategies."

Family Research Council President Tony Perkins: "Elena Kagan’s lack of legal experience will be discussed by both sides of the aisle but her record of liberal activism should not be overlooked. Obama promised a nominee committed to the ‘rule of law,’ but, instead, he appears to have nominated a hard-left activist to the Supreme Court."

"During her confirmation hearings for Solicitor General, Ms. Kagan found it difficult to be forthcoming with her answers. That should not be permitted when she is considered for a permanent position on our nation’s highest court. Kagan has called for the Senate to use the Supreme Court confirmation hearings ‘to engage nominees in meaningful discussion of legal issues,’ and that a nominee’s views on issues are fair game to be discussed. The U.S. Senate should evaluate her nomination by the very standards she set for this process. The Senate has a responsibility to present an accurate picture of her judicial philosophy before voting on her nomination."

"She has the least amount of experience of any nominee in the last three decades. Her judicial experience is zero, as is her real-world experience, having spent most of her career in academia or working as a Democratic Party insider."

American Family Association president Tim Wildmon: "The AFA sent out an Action Alert today to its 2.4 million member network urging them to contact their senators and insist that they investigate Kagan’s impartiality."

House Republican Leader John Boehner: “Given her lack of judicial experience, or time spent as a practicing lawyer, other aspects of her record must be thoroughly examined.

Congressman Steve King: “President Obama’s decision to nominate Elena Kagen to the Supreme Court demonstrates his willingness to sacrifice experience and judicial impartiality for political activism. Despite Ms. Kagen’s lack of judicial experience and limited legal practice, it is clear that she will use her position to push her personal and political agenda."

American Life League President Judie Brown: "On this Monday morning the 51 percent of Americans who self-identify as ‘pro-life’ are demanding answers to Supreme Court nominee Elena Kagan’s rabidly pro- abortion…record. With the nomination of 50-year-old Kagan, will President Obama assure his long-lasting assault on the most fundamental human right of personhood?"
