YWCA Backs FOCA Bill for Unlimited Abortions, Overturning All Pro-Life Laws

Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) — The Young Womens Christian Association (YWCA) may have been a Christian group at one point, but the organization has abandoned that view by supporting abortion. Now, the YWCA is going further and says it would be fine if Barack Obama signed the so-called Freedom of Choice Act.
That’s the Congressional legislation that would make unlimited abortions throughout pregnancy for any reason the national law.
It would also overturn every pro-life law in all fifty states that reduces abortions, stops taxpayer-funding of abortions or allows for parental notification or informed consent for women.
Dr. Lorraine Cole, the CEO of the YWCA, told CNS News during a press conference last week that her group would be fine with the radical pro-abortion bill becoming law with Obama’s signature.
Well, the YWCA has always been pro-choice, so this is a topic that we would be very supportive of," she said.
Cole also claimed a new survey the group sponsored shows women support abortion.
The YWCA poll allegedly shows 54 percent of women want all or most abortions kept legal while 40 percent want all or most abortions illegal.
"The majority of women across age groups support a womans right to choose," Cole told CNS News.
However, the survey is at odds with others that show a majority of women are pro-life.
A June 2003 poll conducted by the pro-abortion Center for the Advancement of Women found 51% of women took a pro-life position opposing most or all abortions while only 30 percent said it should be generally available.
A September 2003 survey conducted by the Polling Company found 54 percent of women selected one of three different pro-life views opposing all or almost all abortions. Only 39 percent backed abortion.
An August 2007 poll of women voters found they want candidates who support limits on abortions.
Some 64 percent of women voters would be less likely to vote for a presidential candidate who voted against the partial-birth abortion ban. Sixty-eight percent of women voters are less likely to vote for a presidential candidate who supports taxpayer-funded abortion.
Another 73 percent of those polled said they would be less likely to vote for a presidential candidate who voted against a law that would have made it a criminal act for an adult to take a girl younger than 18 years of age across state lines to get an abortion without her parents knowledge.
Two recent surveys of all Americans, including women, find a clear majority take a pro-life position opposing all or most abortions.
A June Polling Company survey found pro-life Americans outnumber pro-abortion Americans by a 16 percent margin.
The poll finds 54 percent of Americans take one of three pro-life positions on abortion and just 38 percent take a pro-abortion position.
And an October Marist College poll found 60 percent of Americans say abortions should never be allowed or only in the rarest of circumstances, such as rape and incest, that constitute less than two percent of all abortions nationwide. Just 40 percent took one of three pro-abortion positions.
