Sutton, England (LifeNews.com) — A British baby has survived an abortion at eight weeks into pregnancy and is now a health six-month old with no signs of illness. Doctors told mother Jodie Percival she should consider having an abortion because her unborn child supposedly had a major kidney problem.
Percival, of Nottinghamshire, England, went ahead with the abortion of her unborn son at eight weeks into the pregnancy.
"I was on the (birth control pill) when I became pregnant," Percival, 25, told a London newspaper. "Deciding to terminate at eight weeks was just utterly horrible but I couldn’t cope with the anguish of losing another baby."
She returned to her physician for a follow-up visit where she learned the abortion failed and she was still 19-weeks pregnant.
"I couldn’t believe it,’ Percival said. "This was the baby I thought I’d terminated. At first I was angry that this was happening to us, that the procedure had failed. I wrote to the hospital, I couldn’t believe that they had let me down like this."
"They wrote back and apologized and said it was very rare," she added.
Percival’s son Finley was born in November — three weeks premature — and weighed 6 pounds, 3 ounces. While he has a minor kidney condition, he is expected to lead a normal life.
According to a London Daily Mail news report, Percival’s first son Thane died of multicystic dysplastic kidneys, a condition that causes cysts to grow on the kidney of a developing unborn child.
Her second son, Lewis, was born with serious kidney issues and now has just one kidney.
